How to use Coconut Oil for Hair is a very sensitive question due to the reality that not all hair types are the same. Three different people may ask this question of How to use Coconut Oil for Hair? These three different people will get three different answers. The Golden Rule all different hair types should live by is: Less is More. Always start off with a very small amount applied to the ends of the hair. Now we can get into specific variances of how to answer this great question…
How to use Coconut Oil for Hair? FINE HAIR: Predominantly fine hair will love all natural Coconut Oil as an intensive conditioning treatment. Depending on the length of your hair, about 5-10 TBLS of Extra Virgin Organic Coconut Oil can be used as a leave in conditioner over night. If you do not wish to sleep with the Coconut Oil in your hair, you may comb the pure Coconut Oil through your hair, pulling it up, then putting a shower cap on. Applying heat with a blow dryer will help open the cuticle of your shaft, allowing the Coconut Oil to penetrate more easily. After the treatment time has finished, shampoo and style as usual.
How to use Coconut Oil for Hair? MEDIUM TO COARSE HAIR: The intensive treatment mentioned above may be used as well for your hair. Again, depending on the length of your hair, the amount of Coconut Oil used will vary. Additionally, Coconut Oil may be used on the ends of your hair, minimally, to help smooth & prevent split ends. Take up a pea sized amount of Coconut Oil into the palm of your hands and rub them together, then running your fingers through the ends of your hair. This will help produce a glistening sheen to your hair, over time you will see a noticeable difference in the condition of your ends of your hair.
How to use Coconut Oil for Hair? THICK HAIR: Thick hair may use all of the methods described above, and then some. If you have very thick hair you will need to use more Coconut Oil for all of these steps above, however make sure you still follow the Golden Rule on How to use Coconut Oil for Hair.. Less is More! Just because you have lots of thick long hair, do not be mistaken that you may use a lot of Coconut Oil. Remember Coconut Oil does have a very small molecular structure, allowing it to penetrate into the hair shaft unlike any other oil, but your hair can still reach a point that it’s absorbed too much Coconut Oil. Start sparingly, with practice you will learn very quickly just how much Coconut Oil is the perfect amount for your hair.
How to use Coconut Oil for Hair? WAVY/CURLY HAIR: This is my personal favorite. So much time is spent straightening wavy or curly hair. My thought is work with what we have and make it better! If you have wavy or curly hair, Coconut Oil may become your new best friend. All of the methods explained above may be used, however you may add using Coconut Oil as a styling aide after you get out of the shower while your hair is still wet. If you really want to go with the natural flow of your hair, apply a small amount of Coconut Oil to the ends of your hair, then apply a nice sized ball of mousse and work it all through with a brush. At this point start scrunching your hair. You may take a blow dryer to get some of the water out before you start this process. A diffuser works great with your blow dryer on low, tilting your head to the sides, even upside down, allowing the air to get all into your hair, while you keep scrunching. Small amounts of Coconut Oil may be reapplied, as needed, to help contain your curls. During this process, spritzes of hair spray may be needed to help hold your wave/curl. This will be a matter of preference on how you like the texture of your hair. If any hair type wishes to blow dry their hair straight, a very small amount of Coconut Oil may be applied to the ends as a sort of smoothing serum. Just don’t forget the Golden Rule of How to use Coconut Oil for Hair.. Less is More.
How to use Coconut Oil for Hair? DRY/ DAMAGED HAIR: Coconut Oil is a MUST for any type of hair that has recently gone though any type of chemical processing. Regular conditioning of your hair with Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil will quickly bring it back into it’s healthful state. Remember, Coconut Oil has a very small molecule, it will penetrate deeply into your hair and truly condition it. You will be amazed at how the Coconut Oil will get your hair manageable, soft, smooth and beautiful again.
Here is one last trick I prefer to use if I do happen to break the Golden Rule of How to use Coconut Oil for Hair.. Dry Shampoo. If your hair is appearing greasy or too oily after using Coconut Oi in your hair, simply spray some Dry Shampoo to the area and it will help absorb the Coconut Oil just as it’s designed to soak up your natural oils.
